Industry Accrediations

If you check the website or Yellow Page entries for removal companies you will see a bewildering array of accreditations and logos. The ones that matter are as follows:

FIDI

The Federation of International Movers (it’s a French acronym) was originally conceived to enable like minded members to gain access to each others services around the world. They always set a high standard for membership
but gave this teeth by introducing the FAIM quality standard in the nineties; this standard was then made mandatory. It covers marketing, operations, accounts and training; the bi-annual inspection by outside auditors Ernst & Young give real meaning to its intention: to maintain top quality standards and ensure customer satisfaction. In the moving world there is no prouder badge for a company to wear than this. See for yourself by logging on to FIDI.com

British Association of Removers

This is the national trade association for the UK. It’s been going for over a hundred years so it knows a thing or two about removals. By offering back-up services to its members the BAR co-ordinates and oversees best practice for all its member companies. This involvement extends to the customers of its members; from information on finding a mover to arbitration facilities in case of a dispute. It installs and administers the BS EN 12522 quality standard and ensures the annual inspection of the system. The depth of knowledge that the secretariat has is second to none. Its crowning achievement is the recognition by the Department of Trade and the development and implementation of the Code of Practice. This is the only code that is recognised and monitored by the OFT’s Consumer Codes Approval Scheme. The BAR is a non-profit making organisation and is the only true voice of our industry – beware others that are actually limited companies simply making money by supplying a fancy badge. Household Goods Association of America

This is the trade group for international movers who have business to or from the USA. Its emphasis is on co-operation and contact. The annual conference is held at different locations in America and attended by over two thousand delegates. The mutual business and friendships that develop from these meetings help enormously in easing the problems that can otherwise slow things up. They also provide a lobby facility to the US Federal Government where they help shape and influence transport policy to the benefit of those on the move. Their website is: HHGFAA.org

F+N is a member of all the above and takes an active part in the BAR and attends the various forums, meetings and conferences that they, FIDI and HHGFFAA organise.
